SWARM 2A: Anatomy & Physiology (7-12th Grade)

There is something elegantly beautiful about human beings that sets them apart from all other created beings.  Every single human being was not only made in the image of God but created on purpose for a purpose.  Not only does each structure within the human body have a purpose and a specific design but all their parts have purpose and design as well.  In this course we will explore these structures and become familiar with how each one of them were created on purpose to maintain homeostasis and the beautiful gift of human life we all have been given by our Creator.  Throughout the course we will delve into both anatomy, the structure of the human body and its parts, and physiology, the functions of the human body and its parts.  This course includes multiple dissections.

All Science classes are taught and organized by a credentialed high school Biology teacher.
Weekly Curriculum & Assignment Schedule: (Assignments typically take 45 minutes a day, four days a week)
Computer and Internet required.
Students will be assigned to interact with educational websites.  Please participate in these assignments with your child.
Students will communicate with teacher via email.
Labs: 40+ lab hours!

Textbook: Hole’s Essentials of Human Anatomy & Physiology 12th edition.  Students need to purchase, or rent, this textbook.  Rentals available at parent meeting – $25.00 for the year until supplies run out.

Parents are responsible for monitoring their student’s learning, including assuring students are keeping up with homework and grading all assignments and tests.  Students are expected to complete the work for the week before lab in order to be ready to learn during lab time.

Costs: $660.00 for the full year. $75.00 registration fee due at the time of registration, $330.00 due September 5, 2025 and $330.00 due January 2, 2026. Or pay one payment of $600.00 September 5 and save!

  1. Course Fee covers course curriculum and credentialed teacher’s guidance, all lab fees and group learning sessions.  A lab grade will be provided for parents at the end of the year to those who request it.
  2. Research Labs and field trips are an additional fee.
  3. Graph paper, textbook and lab notebook (Composition Style) are required purchases.

*All upper level Science courses are a full year High School level Science course with labs.  (The 7th and 8th grade students complete similar assignments at their own grade level and thus can earn a middle school level Science credit.)   Students are expected to do daily assignments when assigned in order to get the most out of the labs.  High school students who complete all course requirements, assignments, labs and tests, and receive a passing grade will earn a full year High School level Science credit.  Parents are required to keep records of their students work and assessments.  Teacher will provide parents with a detailed lab grade report at the culmination of the course.  (*Note: Science credit is parent documented NOT teacher documented since I am not grading any of their work.  You may request a Lab credit document from the teacher, documenting how your student did while present in lab. For other options see note on Instructor’s Bio below.)

SWARM 2B: Anatomy – The In’s and Out’s of You (4-6th Grade)

Instructor: Debbie Schlegel
The Dalles, Wednesday 2:00-3:00
White Salmon, Thursday, 9:00-10:00
Carson, Thursday, 1:00-2:00.
Cost: $550.00 Full year science curriculum & 25-30 lab hours

In this class we will begin by learning about homeostasis and the importance of balance in the human body moving on to cover the major systems of the body.  As we study together we will do many labs that give us a hands-on learning experience that allows us to understand how our body works including interactive and interesting lectures as well as labs.  With lessons entitled “Dem Bones,” “What Happened to My Sandwich?,” “Don’t Miss a Beat,” “Just Breathe,” “When You Gotta Go, You Gotta Go,” “What Nerve!,” “Achoo!” And many other creative and fun labs and lectures, your student will be laughing, learning and living Science like they have never done before.  Our desire is to cultivate a love of learning into each student that stays with them for a lifetime.  Students receive grade specific assignments to complete throughout the week to accent their lab time together. This course includes dissections
